Designed by Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, the architectural form of 461 respects the great tradition of Fifth Avenue yet makes its own dramatic contemporary statement. The 10-story base evokes the articulated stone style of surrounding buildings, while above it a sleek 18-story tower becomes a shaft of gently curving glass supported by handsome corner piers. A peaked copper mansard roof with a dramatic lighting scheme crowns the building.
